Visual Artist
Alex Ebdon
Alex describes the inspiration for his work as being capturing ‘moments of magic’. He says, ‘My work is all about capturing the moment - the moment that nature reveals a second of striking beauty in a landscape, the moment that a glance or expression perfectly describes a person, the moment that elements combine and conspire to turn the mundane into the majestic.’
The British landscape is something that Alex is continually drawn to. Through his semi-abstract paintings he looks to capture the feeling of being within these landscapes and to transport the viewer to a place, moment or memory that they uniquely hold special.
Alex studied Fine Art at Blackpool & The Fylde College and went on to have a distinguished career in advertising. He founded his own art business in 2016, which operates across a range of creative areas. Alex is Chair of the Borough of Ealing Art Trail (BEAT), which provides over 250 artists across Ealing the opportunity to exhibit their work through an annual open studio event.

Visual Artist
Gail Astbury
Gail Astbury (b 1967) Lancashire, England on the Morecambe Bay coast. After graduating with a degree in Fine Art Painting from Wimbledon School of Art London in 1992 under Prunella Clough, she achieved commercial success within the field of public art.
In 2014 she gained an MA in contemporary art from Goldsmiths University and now teaches painting at Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery in the London borough of Ealing. For the last 20 years she has made and shown paintings in her studio in La Péruse, a rural village in western France.
Gail is best known for her series of oil paintings and watercolours. In her own words - “My work seeks to take the viewer on a sensuous journey. Sometimes the aim is to soothe and, others, to stimulate with colour, action, and adventure. There is a lyrical balancing act that takes place to find new ways to express what it feels like to live now in this moment. The choice of motif is determined by my desire to connect with my surroundings emotionally and symbolically. The imagery originates from photographic, art historical and cultural references, as well as experiential memories. In some paintings, I wrestle with a narrative that suggests an actual event, others, are imaginary scenes from fictional tales. These archetypes encourage the viewer to engage with their own visual stories. In terms of technique there has been a shift in my work towards using stronger colour combinations and more dynamic compositions. The use of multiples and themes is still in play, and I have added an element of risk to my process by allowing images to emerge from the paint without a pre-determined composition. The choice of medium is usually a matter of time, scale, and subject matter. Oil paint allow for contemplation and reworkings, while watercolour can be more daring with its speed and translucency."
